This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China and the Federative Republic of Brazil. The exhibition "Brazil, Back to the Land" by the Brazilian photography master Sebastião Salgado is being held at the Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum.

On November 7, a solo exhibition by Professor Wang Yuyang from the Central Academy of Fine Arts titled "Painting" opened at the Long Museum in Shanghai. This exhibition presents a fresh showcase and review of Wang’s painting practice, which spans over a decade. His work demonstrates a highly varied approach with a complex language and conceptual depth, deconstructing and subverting traditional painting while creating contemporary images that blend human, non-human, and natural elements.

On the morning of November 9, the China-Italy University Presidents’ Dialogue was held at Peking University. Jointly organized by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Universities and Research of the Italian Republic, the dialogue was themed "Promoting Inter-Civilizational Understanding and Cultivating Outstanding Talent." It included two parallel forums and invited representatives from 45 universities from China and Italy to discuss cooperation in higher education, collaborative innovation, and high-level talent development models between the two countries.

On November 1, Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) professor Wang Chuan’s solo exhibition " Re-creation the Classic of Mountains and Seas" opened at Hubei Museum of Art. The exhibition features more than 40 works created over the past three years, including lenticular lightboxes and reinterpretations of classical paintings. Inspired by the ancient Chinese text Shan Hai Jing (The Classic of Mountains and Seas), the artist integrates photography and Chinese classical masterpieces, blending media such as painting, photography, and lenticular lightboxes. Through this fusion, Wang brings distant traditions and history into modern social reality, presenting a visually immersive experience that is both realistic and illusory. The exhibition is curated by Ji Shaofeng, director of Hubei Museum of Art.

On November 5, 2024, Eva Nguyen Binh, President of the French Institute and Cultural Ambassador of France, along with Emmanuel Tibloux, President of the National School of Decorative Arts in France, and Nicolas Pillerel, Cultural Counselor of the French Embassy in China, visited the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA). President Lin Mao held talks with the delegation, focusing on deepening Sino-French cooperation in art education and cultural exchange.

On the evening of November 1, 2024, the annual "CAFA Global Exchange Program Sharing Session" was held as scheduled in the atrium on the fourth floor of Building 7. The Office of International Cooperation and Exchange invited student representatives who had participated in exchange programs with partner schools in Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, France, and the UK during the past academic year to share their experiences with the entire academy. The event was hosted by the exchange program coordinator, Ms. Wang Yun’ai.

On November 15, President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the 2024 World Chinese Language Conference, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Confucius Institute. He expressed his hopes for the conference to make new and greater contributions to building a shared future for humanity.

In this lecture, Zhu Pei will present his design philosophy, the Architecture of Nature, which will reveal the simplicity and authenticity of architecture’s originality. By focusing on his recent works, he will present how his philosophy can be translated across different tectonic terrains.

On October 26, 2024, the exhibition titled The Great Sculpture Series: 90 Years of the Sculpture Discipline at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), hosted by CAFA and organized by the CAFA Sculpture Department and CAFA Art Museum, officially opened. This exhibition systematically reviews and reflects on the 90-year journey of CAFA’s Sculpture Department, from its inception in 1934 to the present day, highlighting its growth from solid foundations to diversity, from self-awareness to academic consciousness.

On October 18, 2024, Professor Elisabetta Magnaghi, Vice President of KEDGE Business School in France, and her delegation visited the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA). Xu Yang, Secretary of the Party Committee of CAFA, received the guests and held in-depth discussions on topics including discipline development, deepening cooperation, and Sino-French cultural and artistic exchanges. The meeting was attended by Fu Yijing, Director of the CAFA Office, Yu Ding, Dean of the Sino-French Institute of Arts and Design Management (hereinafter referred to as the "Sino-French Institute"), Wang Ke, Deputy Dean of the Sino-French Institute, Prof. Jean-François Vergnaud, French representative of the Sino-French Institute, Mr. Alain-James Palisse, French Administrative Representative of the Sino-French Institute, and Mr. Julien Saint-Sevin, Director of the French Office of the Sino-French Institute.

On October 11, the first teammate mascot of TEAM CHINA/China's National Team was officially unveiled. The design was created by a team led by Professor Lin Cunzhen, Vice Dean of the School of Design at the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

Recently, the large-scale retrospective exhibition “Dimensions indefinitely Variable: Sui Jianguo 1974-2024” by renowned sculptor and professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Sui Jianguo, opened at the Tag Art Museum. This exhibition, held in the artist’s hometown of Qingdao, showcases his growth and development over the past 50 years, from 1974 to 2024. By integrating both indoor and outdoor exhibition spaces, over 280 works (including groups of works) by the artist are displayed, along with seven series of documentary collections. Additionally, three sets of works are being exhibited for the first time. This large-scale artist case study serves as an exploration of the development history of contemporary Chinese sculpture. Lin Mao, President of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, attended the exhibition's opening ceremony and delivered a speech.

On September 25, Huang Keyi's solo exhibition "Inner Landscape" opened at the IOMA Art Center in Sanlitun, Beijing. The exhibition features two series, "Mountain" and "Fruit," showcasing the artist's latest paintings created from 2023 to 2024, along with sculptures, videos, and 3D printed installations. It explores the mutual generation between individual experiences and the natural world, as well as the infinite possibilities of bodily reconstruction after escaping external production mechanisms. The exhibition will run until October 19.

On September 15, the 47th World Skills Competition concluded in Lyon, France. This is the second major international event held in France after the 2024 Paris Olympics, and the World Skills Competition is often referred to as the "Olympics of the technical field."

Recently, the China Printmaking Museum and the Printmaking Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts jointly hosted the "Print Art: Chinese Youth Printmaking Exhibition from an International Perspective" at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, Netherlands. Professor Kong Liang, head of the Printmaking Department, and Professor Kang Jianfei, the exhibition curator, represented the Chinese artists in their speeches, while Dutch painter Eduardus Antonius Van Der Kooij, president of the Royal Academy, spoke on behalf of the venue.

“Great Art Needs No Talk: The Centennial Retrospective of Lin Gang” recently unveiled at CAFA Art Museum belongs to the series of exhibitions themed on “Hundred Years of Glory: CAFA Masters”, and it is also an important activity for CAFA to carry forward the moral cultivation while inheriting the glorious traditions of these predecessors.

Ancient Chinese genre painting as a unique art form has been endowed with a relatively broad developing space since the Song Dynasty. Not only has it possessed the educational function from “subtle perspectives of customs,” but it also presents the social styles and cultural characteristics of corresponding eras through vivid portrayal of ordinary citizens, civil life, festival customs and other subjects.

Recently, the “Collection Exhibition of Artworks and Archives on the First National Exhibition of Fine Arts (1949)” was unveiled at the gallery on the fourth-floor of the CAFA Art Museum. Curated by Professor Cao Qinghui from the School of Humanities at CAFA, The exhibition was hosted by the School of Humanities, CAFA, co-organized by the CAFA Art Museum.

Born in Liaoning province, Liu Xiaodong has been traveling around the world for nearly three decades, observing and depicting a variety of real and ordinary people. Austere and natural, his works provide a powerful insight into reality, showcasing the original vitality of painting. The painting series on display, despite being on canvas or paper, are not bound by them; instead, they stretch out and form a three-dimensional expression. Unlike the general pursuit of ideology and the imitation of Western modernist painting by Chinese artists since the 1980s, Liu has brought Chinese art back to reality with his “realistic oil paintings”.

In July 2024, the "Perceiving China: Art Education Journey West" social practice group from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) embarked on a social practice activity in Gansu. Organized jointly by the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation and the university’s Youth League Committee, this social practice group was comprised of students from various departments and international students. They left their footprints of "Perceiving China" in cities like Lanzhou, Wuwei, Zhangye, Jiayuguan, and Dunhuang. Along the way, they deepened their understanding of the geographical environment, history, and cultural heritage of China's northwestern region, bridging the "East and West" and engaging in cultural exchanges.
