CAFA School of Calligraphy Hosts Cultural Exchange Activities for International Exchange Students

In December, the School of Calligraphy at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) organized two cultural exchange activities for international exchange students from Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Bangladesh, offering them an immersive introduction to Chinese calligraphy and seal carving.

During the first session on December 9, the exchange students visited a calligraphy classroom at CAFA, where they observed live demonstrations of cursive script, participated in guided brush practice, and experienced traditional seal carving. Through hands-on engagement and peer instruction, the students gained insight into the techniques, cultural significance, and educational traditions of Chinese calligraphy.

The second session, held on December 17 ahead of the students’ return to their home countries, focused on experiencing the cultural atmosphere of the upcoming Chinese Spring Festival. Participants wrote New Year wishes on red paper, deepening their understanding of calligraphy as a living cultural practice closely connected to seasonal rituals and everyday life in China.

Jointly organized by the CAFA School of Calligraphy and the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, the activities served as a platform for academic and cultural exchange among Chinese and international students. By integrating classroom teaching with experiential learning, the program promoted cross-cultural understanding, peer interaction, and mutual appreciation of artistic traditions, enriching the educational experience of international exchange students at CAFA.
