On the afternoon of September 8, 2023, a delegation consisting of Rem Koolhaas, founding partner of OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture), honorary professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and guest professor; Stephan Petermann, project director at OMA, guest professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts; and Yao Dongmei, former OMA Beijing director, project manager for the CCTV Building, and guest professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, visited our institution. Lin Mao, the President of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, engaged in in-depth discussions and deliberations with the visiting group led by Koolhaas on future teaching collaborations, academic exchanges, and the promotion of Sino-Dutch cultural and artistic exchanges.
Lin Mao extended a warm welcome to the visit of Rem Koolhaas and his delegation. He provided an overview of the Central Academy of Fine Arts' history, educational philosophy, future plans, and aspirations for international education collaboration and exchange. He emphasized that the Netherlands is the cradle of Western art masters and that architecture serves as an essential vessel for culture and art. Lin Mao expressed the Central Academy of Fine Arts' willingness to establish a closer partnership with Mr. Koolhaas to continuously promote educational cooperation and artistic exchanges between the Central Academy of Fine Arts and the Netherlands. He further highlighted the institution's commitment to internationalization and deep engagement in the exchange and mutual learning of world civilizations.
Mr. Koolhaas expressed his honor at having had the opportunity to engage in close collaborative teaching with the Central Academy of Fine Arts over the past few years. During these years of collaborative teaching, there was unity, cooperation, and the overcoming of challenges during the pandemic. The focus was on researching the future development and design strategies of Chinese rural areas, delving deep into the trends in architectural art, and achieving very gratifying results. He expressed his hope that in future collaborations, they can strengthen their partnership through more diverse forms and subjects, researching cutting-edge topics in architecture and culture, and continuing to deepen the cultural and artistic empowerment in response to societal needs.
Zhupeng, the Dean of the School of Architecture at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and Wang Chuan, the Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, accompanied the meeting.
