Combination and Innovation - 2023 Central Academy of Fine Arts Exhibition of Tutor’s Artworks opens on September 9, 2023, at the Poly Art Museum. This exhibition is jointly organized by the Poly Art Museum, the Graduate School and the Teacher Development Center of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. It will feature nearly 100 artworks by 20 doctoral supervisors from the Graduate School of the Central Academy of Fine Arts(CAFA).
The exhibition presents a multidimensional interpretation of artworks from various perspectives. It includes significant thematic creations by Fan Dian, the Chairman of the China Artists Association, Lin Mao's pioneering explorations during his youth as the President of CAFA, Qiu Zhijie's concept art that blends tradition with contemporary ideas as the Vice President of CAFA, and modern urban landscapes by Su Xinping, the Director of the Academic Committee of CAFA. The exhibited artworks showcase diverse creative concepts, materials, and narrative techniques, such as contemporary ink paintings by Chen Qi, the Dean of the Graduate School of CAFA, and artworks by doctoral supervisors in the field of fine arts, all demonstrating an exploration of innovative traditional art forms. The exhibition also features depictions and reflections that transcend historical boundaries, cultural differences, and disciplinary boundaries, as well as in-depth academic explorations in teaching and research.
In 2018, General Secretary Xi Jinping outlined four important goals and tasks for strengthening art education in a reply letter to eight retired professors from CAFA: "Adhere to moral education, root in contemporary life, follow the characteristics of art education, and promote the spirit of Chinese art education." To implement the spirit of the General Secretary's important instructions, the Poly Art Museum and the Graduate School of CAFA have fully utilized their respective advantages and innovative mechanisms, collaborated on the development of art education, and established a long-term cooperative relationship.
This is the first collaboration between the Poly Art Museum and the Graduate School of CAFA, and both parties are committed to promoting the development of social art education. This exhibition marks the beginning of their partnership.
By integrating the excellent artist resources from CAFA with the rich exhibition experience and industry resources of the Poly Art Museum, a high-end platform for students and mentors has been established, contributing to talent cultivation and promoting the establishment of a comprehensive system of industry-academia-research. Exhibiting the works of teachers and students to the public and receiving critical feedback from the audience also helps in reevaluating and enhancing the artworks.
