Academic advisor Fan Di'an
Curator Guo Xiaohui
Producer Meng Xianwei
Exhibition period 2022.11.05-2023.02.19
The exhibition focuses on the clues that Liu Shangying has been paying attention to for a long time, and presents the artist's enlightening masterpieces since 2010. The exhibition has set up five theme exhibition halls: "Walking", "Inviting Light", "World", "Psalm" and "Rainbow", inviting the audience to have an unforgettable artistic journey with the artist.
The purpose of this exhibition is to show a case study, so as to sort out the main creative way of Liu Shangying which indicates the relationship between painting and walking, examine the social and cultural context behind his works, and present the evolution of his artistic practice in thought and style.
Since 2011, Liu Shangying has been going deep into Ali in Tibet, Ejina Banner in Inner Mongolia, Lop Nur, Altun Mountain and Tianshan Mountains in Xinjiang for field creation. The paintings completed on the spot are displayed in the natural field, so as to explore the relationship between painting and the place where the project takes place, and form a dialogue which is making the painting a wasteland, meanwhile making the wasteland a painting itself.
